Movie places in Madrid

Hello Spaneasiers! How are your Spanish classes going? Are you learning a lot? We hope that you’re really happy with your lessons and you’re enjoying our language and the process of learning it. On today’s post we are going to show you some great places to visit if you love cinema and you would love to recreate your favorite scenes.

First, we can’t start this article without Star Wars Episode 2: The Attack of the Clones. And you might ask yourself why, and it’s because there is a scene in this movie that was filmed in Seville, most precisely in Plaza de España. It’s a little bit hard to see it and recognize it instantly, but if you take a look at the scene where the Amidala Senator walks with Anakin Sywalker around the arcs of this famous plaza.

On the other hand, we have the very famous movie: Spartacus, directed by Stanley Kubrick. This film was shot in different towns from Guadalajara as Taracena Iriépal, or other towns of Madrid like Navacerrada or Alcalá de Henares. These scenes aren’t easy to distinguish because they are really small and old towns… would you be able to find a scene where it’s easy to see that it has been filmed in Spain?

One known show that has used Spain as a huge set and has filmed in various locations around the country, is Game of Thrones. If you have travelled around Spain you might be lucky and have already been to one of these places, let’s see if you know any! The most famous one are Zumaia and Bermeo, two small towns located in the Basque Country where Daenerys had her home: Dragonstone. The Roman Bridge of Cordoba has also appeared in the show, as the Volantis’ Long Bridge; or the Alcazar of Seville was family’s Martell home.

But there’s one place that really screams Game of Thrones to us, do you remember the mythical and impressive scene where Cersei does the shame walk? Those stairs are located in Girona, more specifically in the Cathedral of Girona. This Catalan city has lots of places where the cast of this show filmed some scenes.

Lastly, we have a movie that isn’t known at all but if you want to watch a pretty good Disney movie, we recommend you to watch it. It is called Tomorrowland: A World Beyond, George Clooney and Britt Robertson appear in it! Did you know the movie? In a part of this film the characters are in the future and we can see how they are walking around the City of Arts and Science in Valencia.

Have you ever visited any of these places? We hope that you have enjoyed this article, if you are interested on taking a trip somewhere we recommend you to discover Ibiza. See you!
